Ghosts in the Soul Empty Ghosts in the Soul

Post  Guest Mon Mar 12, 2012 7:34 pm

The year is 2070. Things have changed greatly. The cities of the planet Earth were massive, no matter where they were. And when looked at from above, each continent seemed to be one complete city. The pride of the planet, though, was the World Academy. It was huge, taking up the entire ocean between the west coast of the United States and the east coast of Europe. It was near Antarctica, connecting both large continents. It was about 200 stories tall.

In this time period, the creation of androids had been outlawed. In 2050, an insane, yet genius, inventor infected every android or robot with a virus that caused mass chaos and destruction. The inventor was imprisoned in a special Jail Cell at the bottom of the ocean and every robot and android had been destroyed.

But there had been some reported cases of strange happenings in people around the age of 19. Each one would start hearing and seeing the dead, and most of them (the ones who already were the bad type) would end up killing a mass of people... and the majority of these young adults attended the World Academy.

After some research, scientists had found that those people had what seemed to be ghosts inside of them, and had been there since birth. They could not understand what would cause ghosts to be trapped inside these select few, nor could figure out what was special about these select few. After some observations, they found out what the 'symptoms' of the 'Ghost Bearers' were, and announced that if any one shown those symptoms, the 'Infected' (as they so called them) was to be apprehended and taken to the Labs for research and extraction of the Ghost.

Unfortunately, with the extraction of the Ghost, the Infected were never the same. Most would fall into a state of deep depression, while the others would cease to have independent thought. After linking the side-effects to the removal of the Ghost, the scientists simply held the Infected in special cylinders, keeping them in a sleeping state. Upon further research, they found out that the Ghosts, as well as the Infected, were linked to one specific Infected and Ghost. They knew that as soon as they found this certain Infected they would find out much more about what was going on in their own world.

Lillith shook her head slightly as her name was called for the third time, looking towards the teacher and answering the question asked of her. Her zoning out seemed to be getting worse, but she didn't want to see the nurse about it. It was just getting weirder and weirder, like a day-nightmare almost. Her mind would wander off, and it went to some dark place that sent chills up her spine.

The week had been a normal week for the school, there had not been any reports of strange activities, and they had not seen any of the 'Special Officers' take any students away recently. The teachers claim it is nothing to be alarmed about, but the students knew differently. They were suspected to have a 'Ghost' in them. All students of the age of 19 are monitored carefully until they turn 20, to be on the safe side. A couple of students previously went homicidal and injured many students, and they try to keep it from happening again.

Simon flashed his student ID card to gain access the Biology corridor, he groaned as he shifted the bag on his back to a more comfortable position, walking down the cold corridor. He entered Mr. Bassetts room and sighed heavily, he knew he was late. Everyone else was sat in their seats and now staring at him. Simon bowed slightly and apoligized "I am sorry that I am late. It won't happen again"

Simon then took his place in the class, sat by the window as usual. looking up at Mr. Bassett, He knew he would probably hve something to say on the matter. During class or after.

The teacher gazed at the late student, and simply said "Simon. How nice of you to finally arrive," in a sarcastic tone.

"It won't happen again." Simon replied sincerely as he took off his bagpack and took out his biology workbook, the text book and his pencil case. He sat back in his chair and opened his book to the next clean page, then opened his text book to the same place as his peers.

Simon quickly started to take down notes that were on the board and listened intently to Mr. Bassett, inwardly praying that he would be merciful enough not to give him a detention. He was already behind in his environmental studies coursework and had planned to go out with some friends to the Atrium.

Andrew Bassett walks over to the board, and scribbles some instructions up. He then hands each student a textbook. "You haven't got too much time - better get started."

Simon took the new textbook and started to quickly answer the questions on the board. He hated biology...Plant biology more than anything. He tried his best to answer the questions as fast as he could, but when the time limit was up, Simon hadn't finished the last question completely. He only started it.

Rex lazily patrolled the corridors. He didn't mind his job, it made him sound good, saying he worked at the world academy, but realistically the job was just doing routine checks, never any action.

Time was up. Mr Bassett called upon Simon. "Simon, please answer the final question," with a sneer in his voice.

Simon face-palmed. How typical that he had to answer the question that he didn't finished. Mr Bassett must have seen that he didn't and told him on purpose. He growled lowly as he stood up to read out his answer. Unluckily for Mr.Bassett, Simon did know the answer, he just didn't finish writing it. And he showed this when he told them the answer and sat down. He then gave a confident glare at the teacher.

Mr Bassett pretends not to hear Simon, before walking over to the door to open it.

"Alright, well I have some pens and other stationery items, I have a few of the papers for the next test, and I've got my wallet and phone in my pocket - my computer is there on the top of the desk." The teacher welcomes the officer into the classroom and shows him his desk for inspection.

Simon rose an eyebrow when the officer came in and did a search. The event caused a few bits of gossiping to hover around the classroom - What does he want?, Does the desk hide a Ghost?, is he actually checking up on us? - All these and more were carried through small whispers in the class. Most of which eventually ended up in Simon's proximity.

Mr Bassett noticed the murmurs. "Quiet down, or I'll have you all in detention," he said, authority thick in his voice.

Everyone quieted down fairly well. Everyone looked back at Mr.Bassett, or more importantly, the clock near him. Only five more minutes before lunch time - it wouldn't be long now - The only thing left was the post-lesson announcements and warning, maybe some homework to be set...then poof! Everyone would be gone. Personally, Simon couldn't wait to get some food inside him.

With that, the class bell rang and the students left, Simon included. He headed down the hallway and into the Atrium, the main play area in the academy. This was were students would usually gather up and take some time out after studies, it had a few shops to server food and drinks, as well as unlimited broadband for the students to use... Albeit some of the internet was censored.

Simon sat down near a gather of chairs after going to the shop for a basic lunch; sandwiches, OJ and some fruit. The Academy did their best to ensure the health of the students. Although, in Simon's view, they served way too much fish.

Lillith sat in the cafeteria quietly, her friends talking at her table, but she wasn't really listening to them. She was just staring at her food. Everything had been so vivid, when she would zone out, like she was really in a different place. Cold and damp, dungeon like... a long hall with steps going down forever... and forms behind bars, reaching out for her... calling her....

She snapped out of it when one of her friends shook her. "I'm fine... really..." she assured them
