Biography

The son of Monarch Cysero, Umazen was born in Kindred, the central region of Keld Naer. He lived amongst elves and very few humans during his lifetime. In the latter years of his life, Umazen followed the guidance of the Kindredian God, Aquella. His faith and dedication to her teachings were an inspiration to Kindredians all around, his father rewarded Umazen with the construction of an Academy dedicated to the teachings of Aquella and the magic of the elven race, natura. Aside from Umazens passion for Aquella and natura, he had a keen interest in philosophy and theories of the world, life, death, and everything of that sort. His theories were very bogus, but the arguments he brought up made the impossible seem almost true. This made him known as the great philosopher, in addition to philosophy, Umazen studied the geography of his Keld Naer, and took an interest in exploration and had a strong curiousity for what lay beyond the deep oceans and vast emptiness off the shore of Keld Naer.

Aside from this, his life was greatly affected by the choices made by his kind. As a result of dishonor and savagery in the expansion of the borders, a prophecy was made that would fortell the fall of the west of Kindred, ending the Cysero Alliance, and wiping out the humans of Kindred. The west is where Cysero and all of royalty lived, so all were forced to flee to the east. As a result, many were doubtful of the prophecy and spoke against Aquella, which angered her. Another prophecy was fortold that would also end the east. The invasion took the lives of thousands, including Cysero, but Aquella spared the lives of Umazen and his followers. As a reward for their dedication, she guided them ships which will part them into their own destiny, into their own beginning. Umazen was led to a land in which he was greeted by the natives of the new land, an Orcish tribe. He spent several years there, teaching them Aquellan, learning of their culture, and being taught new technique for mapping and exploration. One of which, is scaling.

In Kindred, scaling had not yet been thought of, so maps did not have proper proportions, which of course led to much confusion during planning and layouts for future expansion. Never the less, Umazen was gracious and thanked the tribe. Over the next few days, he studied the land and developed several theories, and Aquella told him it was time to leave, before their religion had converted him and filled his mind with the ways of their spirituality. And it was so, Umazen set off with one goal in mind: philsophy, new beginnings, and Aquella.

History of Kindred

Growing up in the central region of the continent of Keld Naer, Umazen lived in Kindred, the heart of the continent. Home to all wood elves and high elves alike, with spots of humans here and there. United by simliar morals and goals, the elves and humans formed an alliance now known as the central alliance. The offical name is the Alliance of Cysero, however. The name derived from the Elven Monarch, Alz'Ein Cysero, a wood elf. Aside from the central region, to the north of Kindred was Alnaphar, a very rigid land with a cool climate. It frequently snowed and the land had very few fields, everything was rock, mud, and dead grass. There lived the dwarves, the barbaric, uncivilized society that sought nothing but corruption and havoc. To the south, were the skaven and the majority of the humans. They were both tall and selfish, they sought nothing but expansion for their empire, now known as Lolosia. There methods for expansion were honorless and shameful, their way of diplomacy is war and force. The climate of Lolosia was simliar to central region, but with much more deserts and powerful winds.

Never the less, the Alnapharians and the Lolosians were not in an affiliation against the central region, but they both despised the Cysero Alliance, and worked tirelessly to destroy its people and rid that hemisphere of their lands. Cysero however, was wise, he knew that if the central region was wiped out by the north and south, the two would also fight, allowing the Lolosians to completely take over. And since they were a selfish, expansive kind, the only outcome of their success is to attempt to capture the rest of the world, so as a result, Cysero united the elves with the humans and formed an alliance to prevent this from happening. Aside from the southern threat, the northern barbarians had their own goals. Corruption and sin. The dwarves were sadistic and corrupt in their minds and hearts, they were also greedy, but not to benefit themselves as a whole, but as an indiviual being. This brought conflict even among their own kind, which weakened them as a whole, so the threat was not as great towards the central regions. Never the less, Cysero planned on fighting them too.

All in all, the southern region of Lolosia and the northern region of Alnaphar were failing at wiping the central region of Kindred off the map, and Cysero knew this. Cysero strengthened the northern and southern walls of Kindred and focused on exploration. The central region of Kindred was indeed the smallest of the continent, and there was much need for migration and expansion. Cysero was skilled not in exploration skills and survival, but only in the magic of the natural, and in the strengthening of his kind with the power of his spiritual deity; Aquella.

Fortunately, Aquella was a generous and understanding spirit. She allowed the Cysero Alliance to expand their borders, granted doing so did not result in the absence of honor and had no part in savagery. In other words, it would be up to Cysero to make sure his captains regulated the battalions in making sure no vigorous acts of war crimes were committed; rape, theft, murder of innocent civilians, et cetera. In other words, don't thrive for expansion using the methods that the Lolosians would. The first priority of expansion is to push back the Alnapharian barabrians and all the tribes that dwell within the northern region. The iron and stone extracted would be used to further strengthen the fortifactions of the southern defences from the south. Dwellings would be built near rivers and lakes and business related structures more inland, and the expansion would carry on like so until the northern region of the continent belonged to the Cysero Alliance.

However, as noble and honorable as the military of Cysero was, there is always a rotten apple in the bunch. Some of the elven guards spotted the humans of Kindred looting some homes and there were hints of rape running around. This angered Aquella, as Cysero was responsible for keeping the men in order. Cysero pleaded for forgiveness at the Aquellan altar, where he sacrificed many of his ornaments and precious jewels. She had mercy and forgave him and did not punish him with death, but it came with a price. Aquella was understanding and generous, but just. She prophecied that the land captured will once more swarm with barbarian dwarves, and the southern empires will rise up and wipe out the eastern portion of Kindred, where the royalties lived.

And it was so, the once powerful and prosperous alliance fell, they had stretched thin their forces and order weakened in the north, and lack of defense in the south resulted in the overpowering of the Lolosians. The skavens and humans swarmed into the rich and royal west of Kindred, destroying and looting homes, raping the women and burning the temples. The east of Kindred was small enough to hold off any invaders, hence the prophecy did not mention the destruction of the east. As a result of such loss, the population was split, the moral of what was left of the military and the nobles were drained, and the Cysero Alliance was no more, nothing but Kindred, ran by Alz'Ein Cysero. The few humans of the alliance were killed off, and the continent was changed forever.

Several decades later, the face of the continent has developed. The north belonged to the Lolosians, as well as the far west and all of the south of the continent. The only opposition of the Lolosian empire was Kindred, which was prophecied by Aquella herself not to fall. Many heard of this prophecy over time, but had become doubtful as the entire west had been over run, and they had spoken against Aquella. Once again, this angered her, causing her to allow the destruction of the east. The prophecy brought trouble and fear, causing all to tremble before her, but it was of no use. The prophecy had been spoken, and it was coming into play months after. The invasion took place, the massacre of Kindred, as it was called, took thousands of Kindredians, including Cysero. Umazen, however, was spared among those he taught and those who remained dedicated to Aquella. She had no pity for them, but new their souls were pure, and had guided them to several galleys, where they set off into the oceans, Umazen went alone, as Aquella had plans for him. Never the less, it was the last anyone had seen of Umazen, and the last anyone had seen of each other.

Future of Umazen

It had been weeks at sea, Umazen with noone but the guidance of Aquella. Umazen remained dedicated to Aquella, despite he had no belongings. Aquella led Umazen to a land inhabited by few at the time, but it was predicted that it will grow wealthy and prosperous, granted the population be successful and wise with their choices. However, Aquella, being a God of Keld Naer, knew little of any other land, and was unable to speak much of the new land. Umazens curiosity sparked, after weeks of seeing nothing but vast waters, he had the urge to explore the new land and to find a new life.

Upon reaching shore of the land, he was greeted by the natives, a tribe of Orcs. They were friendly and spiritual, which caused Umazen to become cautious with them, as he is very sensitive with his spirituality, and he became uncomortable with those of other spiritual dieities. Aquella warned him to make a temporary stay, to regain strength, to re-write his philosophic theories and her teachings into a compilation of chapters called the Manga Libro, Great Book. The compilation would make it much easier to teach and distribute teachings for study, and it would make it much easier to travel with one book, than several scrolls.

Despite the spiritual issue, Umazen taught the Orcs to speak Aquellan over the course of many years, and in return, they taught him how to speak Orcorum. Umazen had developed new tools for exploration, combining the techniques he grew up with in Kindred, and the techniques taught to him by the Orcs. In Kindred, there was no scaling on maps, which was a disadvantage to planning, as preportions drawn on maps were innaccurate, and led to much confusion. However, the Orcs taught Umazen to create a scale that would determine the size of the drawings compared to the real life object. Umazen was shocked and embaressed at how he missed scaling in his maps. Never the less, he thanked them and decided it was time to leave the tribe, to find a new life, he was reminded to leave before he Orcish religion infested his mind.

And it was so, Umazen feasted with the Orcs and he set off with his new skill in scaling, mapping everywhere he explored, and keeping note of landmarks. Umazen came up with the theory that the earth was round. He stood on a tall mountain over looking the ocean, noticing although it was daylight and it was not foggy, the land in the distance seemed to dissapear, which to him, contradicted the ideaology of a flat world, so he wrote down his theory.

"The world which we dwell will no longer be known to be flat, but round. The planet we live must be so large, that we cannot observe too far without our vision failing us, as we would simply be looking off into space off the edge of the planet. We must observe the planet from a high distance, and only then will we acknowledge that the planet is round, not flat."

Umazen was satisfied with his theory, and moved on. Coming across theories over theories, he decided to become a teacher of philosphy.

Don't take this the wrong way, but TL;DR. I got that you're the son of a king, but I've got no clue what you're doing outside of your kingdom.

I also got that there's a lot of lore in there about your home. Which is all well and good, but it keeps me from knowing the basics of your character.

I somewhat rushed the biography, I agree the reason I left is kind of weak. I'll do some editing with the reasoning behind leaving/issues within the kingdom.

Edit: Any feedback from everyone else would be good aswell, I'm going to spend time changing up the major issues of Keld Naer a bit so I can expand more on the character.

Despite the length, I actually found this to be an interesting read. However, I would've liked to have seen more backstory specifically about your character rather than the history of his land (even though it is very interesting). What role did he play in this conflict? Did he side with the power-hungry, barbarous Dwarves or with the humans he and the other Elves had worked with for decades?

Yeah I agree with you, I didn't think of getting him involved with the issues, but involved with philosphy and Aquella. I just updated and changed quite a bit up of the history.

Edit: I may make a few improvements here and there. Nothing too major.

You might want to re-arrange it a bit too. Put your character information first and then the stuff about where you came from. I got very confused by its current order.

Upon arrival, day fell quickly as both he, Lorenzo, a lizard (which he didn't pay attention to at first) and Oak socialized with each other. The village they happened to meet each other in was deserted and thought to be cursed. Over time, Lorenzo and the lizard went their own way into Legaria, whereas Oak invited Umazen to the Elven city of Miendienl, which he accepted.

Shortly after they arrived, Oak and Umazen socialized for a bit and went about their business. Several days later, Umazen ended up in Legaria strolling around, where he met again with the lizard, and found out his name was Z'Greel. Umazen was struck curious, but as expected, Z'Greel was an uncommon name.

Umazen later walked back to Miendienl, where Oak shortly after arrived telling him that Sight requested they both go on a journey throughout a series of rooms that lie beneath the desert. Weapons and armor were needed, and so were an abundance of food and torches. The journey was tough and time consuming, but the task was completed.

At the end of the long journey, was a room with a chest and a lime substance above it which kept the chest sealed. Oak fetched Sight and Sight enabled the destruction of the lime substance. Umazen then removed the lime and gave Sight a yellow rod that was in it. Sight then went back to Miendienl to work things out with the rod, and Umazen went about his business, writing and meditating on Aquella and his philosophy. He wonders if he can live in a home near his, a more spacious home, so that he is able to keep his things more organized and store archives of his philosophic scrolls, the magna libro, and the teachings of Aquella.

The next day, Umazen came across a building near the shore of a boat. It turned out that building is owned by Iago, the crier of Miendienl. The two introduced each other and Iago was honor'd to meet him, surprised, Umazen didn't know the word of his and Oaks journey was spreading. Umazen wants to keep up with the stories that Iago produces, and will assist him in future news.

Over the course of a few days, perhaps a week, Umazen consulted with King Sight to construct an academy, the Aquellan Academy. Here, will be taught psychology, biology, music, athletic related courses, philosophy, Aquellan and Chaos. The Academy is still being built, as only two class rooms, the lobby, and the theater is finished. Two more classrooms, a library, a stadium, archives, patio and some offices still need to be built. This project will take quite some time.

Shortly after the theater was built, though, Umazen went to spread the news to Demetri, a future teacher, or at least, supposed to be. Never the less, Jonathan found out Umazen was of Miendienl, and so was the academy, he warned Umazen of the war between Legaria and Miendienl, but the way he sees it; Why should two groups of people go to war over a cause none of them played a part in? Unfortunately, he was threatned with imprisonment and banished from Legaria.

This caused Umazen to think that Sight will retaliate by banishing all Legarians from Miendienl. He wonders what will happen to the future of the academy if only he will be able to teach? As he only knows a few subjects, and Demetri the other. If his predictions come true, he will have to rely on new migrants and their knowledge to help further his academy, he will not give up.

Aside from political conflict, Iago wishes to construct an Inn some time, hopefully after the construction and furnishing of the academy, Umazen wishes to help him build and run the place.

The next few days have been nothing but work on the academy, hard, passionate work. During his work, he encountered Bear on the theater stage and decided to socialize with her. Shortly after, "Lorenzo" showed up, threatning both he and Bear with a blade. Bear then shot an arrow into his armor Umazen told "Lorenzo" to leave. Oak came by a few minutes later in the conversation and "Lorenzo" finally left, Oak tracking him.

Umazen then finished the upper academy room park and felt Oak had been gone too long, he then wandered about the cursed village and eventually creeped into Legaria. Shocked, he found most of Legaria in Demetri's church, fighting with Oak and Demetri. He was threatened to be jailed and to leave, so he did.. throwing an egg at Lunas face while doing so. He and Oak left, but before they could, Jonathan showed up, once again, threatning to jail him for coming to Legaria. It appears Legarians are allowed to threaten Miendielians.. while IN Miendienl, but Miendielians are not allowed to even enter Legaria, let alone pose threats.

Umazens cautious attitude towards humans grow, as he already had a cautious mindset with them due to his national history.

Umazen met another folk by the name of Skjoldr. Interesting fellow, always wears a hood and cloak, reminds him of magic. Umazen has been having issues with his home regarding space so he took up a new tree, carving it out from the inside. He plans to store most of his private works in a mini-library and keep the rest for the academy. A library will be built soon, provided he has the necessary books and supplies to start it.

Umazen was alerted of Oaks and Isaacs fight later on in the week, where he was knocked unconcious and brought to the center of Miendienl. He decided to use a remedy he used on him once before, leather and dye. It would relax the muscles in a body and put the mind in a state of bliss, it isn't a very strong remedy but it helps for quick fixes.

Post  hardeu Sun Feb 26, 2012 11:21 pm

Umazen caught several Legarians in Miendienl, he realizes they are quite hypocritical when it comes to keeping out of each others borders. He has a firm opinion on Lorenzo; arrogant and disrespectful. He also thinks Luna is ignorant and doesn't realize that her city/mine was built against the will of the native Miend, so they retaliated. It was brought upon themselves. Umazen also has a light grudge against Luna because of her attitude towards him during a voyage into a cave of redstone. Where he assisted in locating a strange noise, killing a werewolf and causing a Darandele to takes it own life.

Luna called him a coward while he fought and took injury. He of course was offended, but especially because she sat back and cried the entire time. After the long voyage, they left for the surface, where Luna continually insulted him, even after the fight and help he gave them during the voyage. He felt used and insulted.

Later on, he wandered about the cursed village and some hills surrounding Legaria, as Miendienl was empty. He was approached by Luna, explaining that her father was killed by the native Miend, and the fact that Umazen sided with the Miend, is why she hates him. Umazen instantly thought of the fact that it was humans who killed off his nation and his father, but he doesn't hold a grudge against humans. Never the less, she stomped off.

Umazens position on the war: What's done is done. The war only continues because the Legarians keep their minds in the past and continually mourne. He hasn't seen any aggression from the current Miend, so he thinks it's the Legarians that keep the fight going. He thinks the Legarians brought the issue upon themselves, digging and mining, regardless if the natives hated it. Never the less, he still chooses to live with the Miend and help out the citizens of both cities, regardless of the hatred he receives.

Umazen has felt the need to temporarily isolate himself within his own home to meditate and speak with Aquella, to strengthen his spiritual relations as he lacked doing so as of the arrival to Betelgeuse.
Following several weeks of meditation and times of privacy, he's finally going to leave his home.

Aquella has requested of him that he begin teaching Aquellan in the academy, both the language and the spirituality. Umazen has gained more self confidence but is still cautious of Luna.
