Lorenzo il Dante: Birth of a Dynasty

Post  nekoal18 on Thu Feb 23, 2012 4:16 pm

Early life:

Lorenzo was born into a Legarian family. His father was a dedicated nationalist and mine leader, born into the wealthier classes of Legarian society. His mother worked had a watergirl in the mines to keep the men hydrated, as her part for the war effort, at least until she became pregnant with Lorenzo's Brother. However, he was born prematurely and died only hours of being born.

Going into homelife, for the next few years, Lorenzo's mother became pregnant with him, and exactly 9 and a half months later, Lorenzo was born. She took care of Lorenzo's early life, raising him into a responsible child with a facination for architecture and a deep appreciation of art. At the age of 8, Lorenzo shown dedication for education, pleased by this, his father bought him books on his favourite subjects, but couldn't send him to any school.

Self-taught and eager to help his country, even at a small age, Lorenzo considered joining the military, but with his parents persuasion, decided to stay and tend to his education. His Mother's death was a turning point in Lorenzo's life when he reached the age of 15. Death by illness, Lorenzo was shocked and stunned to the core and was now left home alone. The father, forced to struggle with his choices, enlisted Lorenzo to the Legarian mining squads. Lorenzo was shocked and detested this, having never been in a mine in his young life, believing himself better than the lower classes. This belief affected his work ethic in the mines, as well as his relationships down there, often being called names, but despite this, Lorenzo gained an understanding of lower class life in the mines and in turn gained some respect for it.

From the ages of fifteen onwards to 26, Lorenzo spent most of his life in the mines of Legaria, saving up his wages for the time when he would consider "leaving the nest", However, plans changed after Old man Dante died in a cave-in with several others. And even though some where saved, his father was not among them.
The event left Lorenzo cold for the next couple of days, wishing he would have been there to help. After burying his father, the state opened up his will, which naturally, left all of the father's belongings to the son.

And so this story begins...

Raise to Patron

Post  nekoal18 on Thu Feb 23, 2012 4:46 pm

Lorenzo's first task after his father's death was to at first accept the will's wishes. He started work on refurbishing his newly inherited house with the national colours of Legaria, and developing it into a suitable place to live.

But to do this, He had to rely on his father's fortune. So he did so. He spent, spent, spent until he was fully satisfied. After this, he decided to do something his father did often: Finance expeditions into the mines.
A high stakes gambler, Lorenzo invested 1000 gold pieces to an expedition and also asked Jonathan, the Vizier of Legaria, for the possibility of a higher title of nobility: Patron.

The Vizier answered that he would attempt to find out for him. And with that, Lorenzo left. He decided to go mining himself in Legaria. After finding much coal and redstone, Lorenzo single-handedly discovered Legaria's largest diamond. But something like this, despite it's obvious wealth, was dangerous. He quickly decided to donate it to Legaria's recently opened Church, the Sanctuary. Which it's Deacon, Demetri, accepted with great zealous.

With the diamond safely out of his hands, Lorenzo decided it better to get to know himself with the city's new inhabitants. Meeting Z'Greel, a reptilian humanoid and skilled smith with a love for shiney objects. He also met Xander, an artillian who wished for a new home in Legaria, which Lorenzo helped to build.

However, only a few days later after receiving the spoils of his expedition venture, which only just made a break even. Lorenzo decided to see Demetri. He, on the other hand, just left for Miendienl, so Lorenzo followed curiously. Disgusted that Demetri would talk to the elven degenerates, Lorenzo stormed forward, but not before being asked by Iago, a news reporter, if Lorenzo would use his architectural know-how to help build a Miendienl Academy for Demetri and an Elf named Umazen. Feeling a little compromised by being in the city, Lorenzo agreed and built the supports under the Academy.

After that, He went back home to Legaria, a few days later, the story was placed in the paper and Lorenzo felt like a traitor, this shown in the townspeople's reactions to him; particularly Luna Casella's. Despite this, he decided to confront Demetri on the matter, but was held up by Z'Greel's "Feral" instinct, which in ended with Lorenzo's neck being bitten badly.

Hurrying to the hospital, He asked Luna's assistance, but she refused. Luna instead gave him an ointment and cough medicine for him to heal himself. Furious, Lorenzo told Demetri he would no longer help with the Academy and told Iago too. The ointment burned upon application and caused Lorenzo a great deal of pain and sleepless nights, which he felt he truly deserved for his betrayal.

After several days of healing, Lorenzo went out and was confronted by Luna, who implored him to let her help him, out of spite and self-pity, he refused. But later accepted when he went to the Hospital for refills.
Feeling better, Lorenzo headed to see the Vizier, Jonathan, to ask about the patronage, and....

"Due to your father's support and work, His majesty decides to award [Lorenzo] with Patronage"

The work of a Patron.

Post  nekoal18 on Thu Feb 23, 2012 5:08 pm

After receiving Patronage, Lorenzo started building plans. The first of which was to start offering his finances to skilled people of Legaria and offer favours to those who needed them.

His first of which came from an unexpected person. Honest Iago, the news reporter, requested Lorenzo to help him build a secret warehouse, which he could use to shift his resources around the continent. Lorenzo agreed and hired Z'greel to build this warehouse. After paying him off for the building of the warehouse and his silence, Z'greel took the payment and Lorenzo exhibited the place to Iago, who was most pleased. In return for this, Lorenzo asked Iago to always show Lorenzo in a positive light in his newspaper. A condition Iago accepted.

Satisfied with his first transaction, Lorenzo decided to go see Demetri, but he was not around. Suspicious of Demetri's activities after he had recently told Lorenzo about distributing books to Miendienl. Lorenzo waited out in the pouring rain until Demetri returned, which he did. Confronting him on the situation, Lorenzo merely wanted to warn him about his alliegence to the enemy state and it's inhabitants. However, things went unexpectedly odd when the deacon offered to bribe Lorenzo into silence. Annoyed at this attempt, Lorenzo saw it through as to teach Demetri a lesson, paying him a total of 7 diamonds, the equivalent to 1000 gold pieces. Demetri reluctantly agreed and Lorenzo promised to keep his silence and spend this bribe on Legaria's interest.

Soon after this, Lorenzo was officially acquainted with a shy girl named Jasmyn. Suspicious she was an elf, he acted rudely towards her, but later reconciled with her and the pair became friends. Jasmyn outlined her anxiety of being in a new place with so little people known to her. As result of this, Lorenzo promised to be there for her if she ever needed someone to talk to. Since then, they have been seeing each other and talking often.

Elves:
Lorenzo feels no pity for an elf. Absolutely none. Being brought up upon his mother's and father's anti-elf sentiment and the typical Legarian ideology, he is drastically racist towards the elvish kind. He will not consider ever truly dealing with an elf, but is willing to put aside these views for "The greater good of Legaria"

Humans and other species:
Lorenzo is sceptical about his own kind and others, but not nearly as aggressive towards them. He will act reasonably toward Legaria's welfare before considering developing any kind of relationship with a person, whether they be Human or otherwise. Lorenzo is often paranoid of others and their intentions, but this will not get in the way of his social life with Legaria's subjects.

The war:
Lorenzo fully supports Legaria, but is not really willing to take up arms himself. Instead, he argues that he keeps "Legaria's lower classes working" by providing finance to keep public works in the mines active. He concentrates solely on the economy, believing it to be the key to a successful war against the elves.
