HISTORY OF THE LAND OF CHAGRIN
Chagrin is a city nestled between jungle lands and dense forest: a hot and humid place, but a perfect place for settlement. It was first colonized by a small group of humans who benefited from Chagrin's lucrative spices and rare animals. However, Chagrin is not without conflict: a culture of pacifism has led to a poorly-equipped and even more poorly-manned army. This naturally led a far more powerful nation very close to Betelgeuse called "Esper" to attack Chagrin, wanting their resources and to enslave the humans there. Esper at first assumed that the small land of Chagrin was uninhibited, but was shocked to find highly-suspicious humans residing there. The attitude of these power-hungry invaders led to a very poor impression on the natives.

After an absolute massacre of Chagrin's defenders, and the taking of Fort Rowling, the king at the time developing the "Sanguine Writ", which made assassins not only legal, but sanctioned by the government. The government would often launch pre-emptive strikes against would-be invaders through assassination attempts, and would use these assassins to take down and capture wanted criminals. Though the title of "assassin" was frowned upon, many (including the assassins themselves) considered it a badge of honour, as these assassins often eliminated very dangerous men and women. It was not a pleasant job, but the assassins had a great deal of pride, thinking their actions just. Hundreds, including Dimitri, volunteered to become assassins. Hundreds more were conscripted into these roles due to their skills/abilities.

The war between Esper and Chagrin eventually fizzled to a halt when the King of Esper was poisoned by a member of his inner circle. Chagrin's assassins were immediately blamed, but the King of Chagrin made it perfectly clear that no such attempt had been made on the King's life, and that such circumstances were simply too coincidental to dismiss as an "outside job". A new king was crowned in Esper and an investigation followed, ruling out Chagrin's assassins as possible culprits.

The Sanguine Writ was then abolished. Some, however, continued in their assassin roles illegally. Chagrin is slowly recovering from the war, which has ended through a treaty hesitantly written between the two Kingdoms. This treaty contained harsh conditions for Chagrin, which sparked fierce assassination attempts on the new King and his inner circle.

HISTORY OF DEMETRI
Demetri began life with his father, mother and six siblings on a small ranch, where Demetri's father raised horses. It was a simple life: Demetri was not spoiled, nor was he ignored in favour of the other children. His mother and father gave all of their children what they could. Though they struggled at times, Demetri learned humility and a sense of fairness and equality from his family situation. He attended school with the other children, but not much more.

When the Sanguine Writ was enacted, Demetri joined up as an assassin, hoping to gain fame, fortune and a better perspective on justice. As most young assassins, Demetri was only 17 at the time (two years short of the legal age). Demetri specialized in alchemy (especially poisons) and the shortbow. He was not a star assassin, but did his job well, making money which helped to support his entire family.

However, Demetri continued illegal assassinations after the war between Esper and Chagrin was over. After many of the "star assassins" left, Demetri became one of the best, killing criminal after criminal. He adopted a nickname, "Gemini", which he used to disguise himself while murdering. His monicker became very well-known.

Unfortunately, Demetri's fame proved to be his undoing. After a string of high-profile assassinations, Demetri's true identity was discovered. Just past midnight, on a cold winter's night, a group of bandits and "concerned citizens" came to Demetri's house. They raided his home, destroyed his possessions and threatened to kill his family. In complete fear and shock, Demetri promised to retire from assassinations permanently. To make sure that Demetri kept his word, they lynched him and shattered the bones in his left leg, disabling him for the rest of his life.

Much unlike what most people would do, Demetri did not attempt to kill the bandits. In fact, revenge was the last thing on his mind. He turned inwards and blamed himself for his own injury, realizing that the murders (though altruistic in purpose) harmed many.

This was the realization which changed Demetri's misfortune. An old monk named Lemir discovered Demetri in the streets, and brought him into a Church of Notch. When Demetri recovered, the man offered him food, water and clothing...free of charge. Demetri was shocked that the man was giving him, an assassin, such attention and kindness. However, he realized that perhaps the monk didn't know who he really was. He spoke for hours with the monk about the teaching of Notch and the "way of the admin". With a new outlook on life, Demetri died his hair and changed his clothes, constructing a new identity for himself.

The monk taught Demetri unarmed combat, philosophy, history and animal husbandry, as well as how to be a better person overall. The time came, one day, for Demetri to confess his sins. During his first confession, and with much prodding, Demetri finally revealed who he was after nearly a year of teachings. The monk was shocked, and did not speak, but instead simply embraced him as a brother and fellow Administ.

On his 25th birthday, Lemir told Demetri that his training was over, and that it was time for him to create a sanctuary of his own. Demetri packed his bags and headed for Betelgeuse, a nation closeby, in the hopes of spreading kindness and the Way of the Admin to all.

Demetri was recently caught by Lorenzo after spending time with his beloved, Bear, and making deals with his friend Umazen in Miendienl. Demetei bribed Lorenzo seven diamonds to not say anything to the Vizier, whom Demetri has had conflicts with in the past. If the Vizier found out about Demetri's excursions, he would likely be placed in jail...or worse.

Luna has also completely cured Demetri's shattered leg, though Demetri still has great difficulty doing more vigorous tasks such as running, jumping and rolling.

ADDITIONAL INFO

Attitude about the War
In a simpler time, Demetri might have said that he " is on the side of Betelgeuse". However, after spending time in jail because of Lorenzo, having his reputation smeared by Luna and nearly being killed by guards sent in by the Busier to kill him, Demetri's attitude has abruptly changed. On many circumstances, Demetri has "jokingly" mentioned putting a blade in Luna's back, killing or imprisoning Lorenzo, or having the Vizier dethroned. Despite his knowledge of Sight's "unique" condition, he has turned completely away from Legaria and onto the side of Miendienl. He still has friends in Legaria such as Z'greel and Jasmyn, and doesn't actually advocate a full out war. Rather,Demetri simply advocates getting rid of Luna, Jonathan and Lorenzo: whom he considers "enemies to peace"

Attitudes about the different races
ORCS -- Demetri is very "buddy buddy" with Orcs, as he has served with Orcs in the Esperian war. He is familiar with Orc culture, as the Orcs and Humans co-habituated in Chagrin for many years.

LIZARDKIN -- Demetri is unfamiliar with Lizardkin culture, but does have some familiarity with the Lizardkin themselves. The Lizardkin, like the Orcs, also fought with humans against Esper. He is familiar with the somewhat materialistic culture deeply embedded in Lizardkin, but knows little else.

ELVES -- Demetri has spoken with Bear and Umazen, who are both wood elves, and has since reluctantly changed his opinion on Elven kind. His opinion has changed so drastically from living in Miendienl, in fact, that he has even attempted to learn Elven. As Hiral or Bear may tell you, he is absolutely awful at the language.

Some racism against Elves remains, however, in Demetri's use of the racist term "tree licker" to describe Luna and other Elves whom he has problems with. Demetri is particularly harsh against Dark Elves: his religious and worldly views intertwine into the belief that they are inherently evil and sinister.

ARTELIANS -- Artelians are a mixture of giants and Elves coming from the land of Artel. Demetri is unfamiliar with the Artelians, however, and has never seen one himself. It is likely that Demetri would be intimidated and hesitant around an Artelian, though he wouldn't hold any particular opinion. That being said, Demetri has had a few run-ins with Xander. He has little to no opinion of Xander himself...yet.

OTHER HUMANS -- Philosophically, Demetri has a somewhat pessimistic view of humans. He would like to believe that humans are redeemable, but his worldly experience says otherwise. Humans, in Demetri's view, are greedy and power-hungry, and can be easily manipulated on these principles alone. Many of the bandits who destroyed his leg were human, thus this reasoning is not entirely false. Lorenzo's treatment of him has made this evaluation profoundly worse.

WEREWOLVES / VAMPIRES -- Demetri originally believed that werewolves and vampires didn't exist outside of fiction. However, after seeing Sight turn into a werewolf, and hearing of stories from Oak and other supernatural hunters, he has been forced to believe that they exist. Demetri has a high opinion of Sight himself, which has in turn affected his opinion on werewolves themselves. He hates supernaturals and believes they are evil, but at the same time has seen the kindness and just nature of those who serve under Sight. Thus, he is ambivalent almost to the point of confusion. He accepts werewolves and vampires as inevitable evils, but ones he would rather not confront alone.

Demetri was recently involved in an incident involving Lorenzo. Lorenzo was cruel and unjust towards Oak, a Miend visitor to Legaria, and so Demetri decided to attempt a Razzio (renaissance term for a Just execution) by impersonating Lorenzo in Miendienl. This, he hoped, would have Lorenzo jailed or executed, which he believed would improve Lega/Miend relations. The Miend bought it, and honestly believed he was Lorenzo. Demetri acted mean and cruel towards Umazen, Oak and Bear (though he felt particularly guilty about the latter). Umazen promised that the Vizier and King Foreson would find out about his excursion to Miend.

Upon returning to town, Demetri was spotted by the real Lorenzo, even though he managed to trick Luna into thinking he was the mailman. Oak followed "Lorenzo" to the sanctuary, where Demetri quickly tossed away his armour and stepped out. Suspicion followed in which Demetri attempted to convince Luna that Lorenzo was a traitor.

His attempts failed, and Luna attempted to arrest him. He fought her off and headed to his seret room, which Z'greel opened. Demetri failed to fight off Lorenzo, was captured and was thrown into his own confessional booth. The Vizier was contacted immediately. Though Demetri managed to minimize his charges, he was still charged with impersonating a noble and tresspassing in Miendienl. He was sentenced to a prison term in the mines which he honourably fulfilled. The charges were dropped.

Z'greel contacted Demetri in prison and told him of a hideout location where Demetri could stay until he could contact the King of Miendienl. Both Z'greel and Demetri were worried that an attempt would be made on Demetri's life. Demetri repeatedly thanked Z'greel and told him he would pay him back one day.

Demetri headed for the hideout, which was on the very edge of Legaria's borders. He and Bear are currently staying there until Demetri can contact King Sight for asylum.

Demetri has taken residence in Miendienl, where he and Umazen speak regularly. Umazen has agreed to allow Demetri to build a Chaos Sanctuary within the Aquellan Academy, so long as Demetri has no qualms with Umazen teaching the Aquellan religion. He also sent a shipment of food to the Legarian Chaos Sanctuary, sneaking in unnoticed.

Shortly after moving into Miendienl, Demetri met Sight along with a few Legarian visitors. Demetri was confused, as were the others. Soon after, Sight turned into a werewolf and attacked the Legarians, sparing Bear and Demetri in the process. Despite his grave issues with Legaria, Demetri chased after Sight and the others to make sure they were not harmed. He later found Jasmyn, Z'greel and Lorenzo safely in Legaria. Lorenzo immediately confronted him at the borders, but Demetri made sure that he knew of his intentions (namely, to make sure the others were alright). They had a harsh clash of words, and then Demetri left.

Lately, he has gone out exploring in the areas around Miendiel, becoming interested in the Darandelle story told by Sight and hoping to perhaps uncover some sort of artifact. He found abandoned mines somewhere off the Miend coastline, but has had little luck otherwise.

Re: Demetri Sandalwood

Post  Pan N'el Dar on Wed Feb 29, 2012 12:02 pm

While becoming acquainted with a newcomer to Miendienl, Hiral, Demetri spotted a strange looking creature with dead-looking eyes and unusual clothes. He appeared out of nowhere and scared Demetri, though he became curious as to what exactly the creature was. Sight showed up soon afterwards, and Demetri asked him if he knew who that was. He appeared not to have any knowledge of it.

Demetri prepared for a second, longer expedition to the areas around Miendienl and asked Hiral and Bear if they would like to join him. While exploring, they found a massive cave in Miendienl's borders rich with diamond, gold, iron, silver and numerous other precious metals. Between the three of them, they realized that they had almost ten thousand gold. Demetri entertained the idea of creating a trading outpost in Miendienl, which instantly excited him. "Picture this: Miendienl, trading capital of Betelgeuse!", he said to anyone who would listen. Hiral and Bear were also interested in the idea, and pitched the idea to King Sight. He too was interested in the idea, and provided supplies and a permit to get the project moving forward.

Bear and Demetri finally moved in together, but they were not yet alone: Bear insisted on allowing Hiral to live with them, saying that he helped her build and finish the house. Bear cited a long history of living with three or four other females in the same house, and couldn't see why Demetri couldn't do the same. Demetri hated the idea, but saw little chance to argue, as Bear was already upset at his insultingly poor understanding of basic Elvish linguistics (which he learned from Hiral).

Due to Hiral not having a room or a bed in the new home, Hiral was forced to sleep with Bear. Demetri completely misunderstood this and assumed that Bear was cheating on him. Feeling already upset about his past life, Demetri went to the cursed town and tried to drown himself in the well. Jasmyn stopped Demetri before he could, and Demetri expressed his extreme regret over his past, and how he felt it was "penance" that he die. Jasmyn helped him realize that living with this guilt, though painful, was a form of payback in and of itself. Demetri embraced Jasmyn and thanked her, hoping to talk with her more.

Upon returning home, Demetri was greeted warmly by Bear and Hiral, who explained the circumstances behind the situation he had seen. Bear and Demetri quickly made up and, together with Hiral, began building the trading post. It turned out to be small and not exactly the "massive outpost" Demetri had pictured, but it was at least something to work with.

Demetri must now begin extended work on the Chaos Sanctuary, something he had been putting off for quite some time.

not her fault, more mine..... though in his defence, he didn't know, or think of it that way. also i said i would help her make her house in exchange for a room in it. Hiral also now has a much better understanding of Common because of demetri, though demetri is a horrible student of the elvish language.

Demetri was around Legaria visiting Jasmyn when Werewolf Sight attacked the town once again. He hid with Jasmyn and Hiral as Ireth courageously tried to fight him. Just as Demetri gathered up the courage to help her, Werewolf Sight disappeared. Looking around, Demetri saw Jonathan instead, who ordered them to leave or he would call the guards. Thinking that he was bluffing, Demetri told him to "call the guards, go ahead!" The guards were not human, but rather fire elementals. Hiral and Demetri fought them off. Just as Demetri was about to attack the Vizier, Bear showed up. Not wanting her to get tangled up in his adversarial relationship with Legaria, he left, promising that the Vizier would see him again.

At home, Bear was warm and kind to Demetri, but all he could think about was killing the Vizier and "missing his chance" to prove his courage. Bear and Hiral assured him that he could do things in a different way, but Demetri became fixated on killing Lorenzo, Luna and Jonathan, who all opposed him. He wrote a threatening letter which he intended to deliver to Luna, but Ireth stopped him in Legaria, sensing his bad intentions. After calming down a bit, he showed her the letter and explained what he was about to do. Ireth expressed that she wanted to end the war peacefully, but Demetri thought the war was far beyond peace, as he had tried to build the academy just a few months ago but had been stopped. He explained that this was the biggest reason why he hated Luna and wanted her to die: because she had branded him a traitor, which put everything into motion and smeared his name in Legaria.

Demetri has finished a "prototype" of the Chaos Sanctuary, but has much more work to do. He also received (hilariously awkward) reconstructive surgery from Doctor [Forgot his name], who enlarged Demetri's embarrassingly small penis. However, he is unable to have sex for a few weeks as the stitches heal.

Demetri overheard the cries of Lorenzo searching for Jasmyn, and decided to investigate. Lorenzo interrogated him as to Jasmyn's whereabouts. Demetri, of course, did not know where Jasmyn was but was interested in finding her. He went with Hiral and Lorenzo to Sight's chamber to ask if he knew where she was. Jasmyn was safely with Sight and was completely unharmed. Lorenzo returned to Legaria accompanied by Sight and Jasmyn.

A short time after, Demetri waited to speak with Sight and mused under his breath about the changes he would make if he were king. Unfortunately, Sight heard him. He explained that he was mounting an attack on Legaria, and he wanted Demetri to help lead it. Sight revealed himself to be the werewolf, explaining that he has little control but that there is another person who does have control. Demetri was frightened at first, but reluctantly agreed to be among the first to attack Legaria. Hiral soon joined the charge. Sight ordered them to kill or serious wound one person, "to make an example" for the Legarians. He gave them superior weapons and armour and sent them out.

The commotion caused by breaking into Jasmyn's house to assassinate Lorenzo attracted the attention of the Vizier. Hiral fought with the Vizier, and Demetri with Lorenzo. During the fight, both Hiral and Demetri were knocked unconscious and brought before Jonathan. Jonathan ordered Demetri to be executed and for Hiral to be jailed. However, during the execution, Sight attacked the town in werewolf form and attempted to kill Jonathan. While trying to escape, Demetri was murdered by the vizier. He bled out slowly, and had an opportunity to tell Jasmyn that he loved her, and that he wanted all of his belongings to go to Lorenzo. His last, dying word was "Legaria".

Sight was so frustrated by Demetri's death that he murdered Ireth, an otherwise peaceful Legarian, in the belief that it was "blood for blood".

The tensions between the two cities has reached an all-time high after the death of Ireth and Demetri.
